(Jul 26) I’ve been coming to this neighborhood for 13 years. At some point a patch of land indistinguishable from an abandoned dump turned into a park. It seemed to spring into being suddenly, though it must have been going on behind the fence for quite a while.
But first… The Asshole of the Day
The Diallo Mural has been brutally vandalized, undoubtedly by the landlord
More shhamefully, the city just re-armed one of the perpetrators.
Surrounded by multiple railroads on two sides
At least the water doesn’t seem to be killing the birds
But it detracts from the park overall, which needs every inch of usable space it can get.
Looking back at the wasted space
There’s plenty of trains here though.
It’s part of the “Bronx River Greenway”
(December 8) I have to be up at an ungodly hour to be in the Bronx at 9am.
This cherry-picker is used to paint the elevated subway lines.
It is covered in splatter of many colors.
I have several times arrogantly been questioned, “Why are you taking photos?” while outside in public, photographing inanimate objects. Twice now in the Bronx.
Dude, trust me, nobody’s interested in seeing a photo of you.
(August 14) And finally… the footbridge.
This bridge crosses just about everything except the water.
Had it been further back, it would have crossed that as well.
And down the other side. I found these steps particularly difficult to climb because of their layout.
Nobody expects robots in the Bronx.
The outside of the Hunts Point Ave. 6 Station.
They should have spent more money on the inside of the station instead of the outside.
(August 14) Finally approaching the footbridge, artwork caught my eye. I diverted, to discover the Bronx Charter School for the Arts.
It’s not the hole in his chest, or his extracted heart that causes his anguish. It’s the sign on his head.
Keep off the grass you lousy kids!
