May 24. NYLUG Day.
Unexpectedly, I was able to get away and into the city early.

 lirr.

All such trips start with the train.

 title plaque.

A World Trade Center story.

 plaques.

A fenceful of commemorative plaques.

 more plaques.

And still more plaques.

 a view of the village.

A view of The Village.

wouldn't this make the laundromat seem interminable?

I would have thought caffeine would drag the whole thing out.

 those bastards!

Those bastards!
They chopped off the lower half of Superman!

 union square.

14th Street, Union Square.

 penguins.

This must be the way to NYLUG …
The penguins are going this way.

 jim gleason.

Jim opened the NYLUG meeting about Xen.

 moshe barr.

Moshe Barr spoke, …

 ian pratt.

… then Ian Pratt.

A trip out for coffee.

 purplish

Azeleas.

 red

More Azeleas.

 red maple

Red Maple.

 walnut?

I think this is a walnut tree.

 me.

The boy in the window.

 barber pole

Barber shop pole.
Unbroken, unlike all the ones I’ve seen in the city.

 purple pansies.

The gayest flowers of all.

 scaryness.

This store scares me.

Central Park.

 exiting the tunnel

We entered the city via the Midtown Tunnel.

 red and white baloons

The day started out sunny.
Today was a holiday, but I don’t know what.

 ha ha. pete's ass!

Pete told me not to take photos of his ass.
So of course I did.

 the horniest man alive

As we passed through the park, Pete molested the cat.
Video of him climbing down the hill in his rollerblades would have been even more amusing.

i'll bet he gets lots of dates, right?

No visit to the city is complete without encountering an alien.

 saturday traffic

When it was time to leave, there wasn’t much traffic.

 this thing almost fell down

We passed by the CitiGroup Building. It would have fallen down in high winds had the architect not realized this when construction was nearing completion.

 darkening skies

By the time we got out of there, it was not so nice a day anymore.

 more citi

And then we passed the other Citi building. One wasn’t enough.
(actually I think it used to be the Traveller’s Building before the buyout)

Spring has finally sprung, and the clocks have been returned to the sanity of DST.

I have been working myself to the point of breakage.   I chose a most unlikely circuit-breaker.  I would go photograph Christo & Jean-Claude’s The Gates at Central Park.  Needless to say,  I went on the very last day, very nearly at the last minute.

So, let me be the first to say, I don’t get Christo

I do know a lot of orange fabric when I see it.

I wandered around, tense, and taking all manner of photos that I presumed wouldn’t come out very well.  In fact I did lose at least one shot to a failing disc in my camera.

After I settled down, I decided to try and take the pictures less taken.  I present what I hope is one of the odder collections of The Gates photographs.

Favorite line of the day "I’m so sorry my mother missed this, she was supposed to come out on the day it snowed.  Oh,… she was going to accessorize!"

 ugh.

 This woman did.

Oh, and I’ve gotten my camera back since I last posted in here.

More of teh gates in teh gallery.
