(Aug 19) It was on this trip that I realized a few things. One was that walking provided most of the inspiration for photo-taking. The other was (related to the first) that I may have finally gotten a nice camera but at the wrong time in my life. Knowing my time here was short, I hit the street.

begin journey here
I started out…

harbor beach rd.
This road is indeed long and winding.

the winding road
I’d intended to go all the way to the harbor.

the long road
It ends in Mt. Sinai at Cedar Beach.

wooden wreckage
Oh poison ivy, I curse your very existence. You other ivy are ok though.

flowers
Keep in mind though, this is suburbia. None of this is wild.

suburban street garden
But that doesn’t mean it’s not nice.

rock and decomposed dead shit
What the streets are made of.
Unfortunately I didn’t get far before stepping in poison ivy, upon which I hurried back home to wash.

Pseudoreal is still in August. The end of Miller Place was near.

bamboo
There was a small bamboo “forest” at the edge of the proprerty

droopy bamboo
It doesn’t handle snow or rain very well

phlox
And a few flowers around the foundation

robin
This guy ran around the yard a bit

falling apart
I’m surprised the hurricane didn’t blow this thing away

sunset
Sunset over Harbor Beach Rd.

The theme of October and November is treachery. Being the recipient of treachery it turns out, is very time consuming and sleep-disturbing.

I have not stopped taking photos. I have stopped being able to process them. I have a whole new toolchain I don’t know the first thing about.

(Aug 13) A newer (better) camera is for me, an opportunity to re-visit and re-photograph places I’ve been before. I think there’s value in it to see not just the (I hope) improved photographs, but the changes from time.

train: in
First stop, Port Jeff train station. Why? I don’t know.
But it seems fitting the journey would begin in Port Jefferson.

train: out
Which for the Port Jefferson Branch is…

new camera, new aspect ratio
… the end of the line

last wisps of light disappear in the west
These train bridges are one of the few high places out here I have access to

it feels old to me
Most people don’t like the light these lamps make, but I kind of like how it photographs

the platform
I wish I could get up just a little higher. Another floor or two.
