(October 10) Having avoided them for fear of death from age eight until last year, Tony has developed quite a thing for the apple since discovering they don’t trigger his food allergies. With that in mind, we set out on a quest for pommes.

espresso, tony style
According to Tony, you’re looking at the only espresso on the east coast worth drinking.

tony wasn't having any basket nonsense
After a false start, we found apples to pick from trees (and not baskets).

they remind me of plates my mother had also
The more I look at these photos, the more they remind me of my childhood.

these are the eating kind
Of course the wild apples of my childhood weren’t fit to eat, but they looked vaguely similar.

apple trees as far as the eye can see
Apples everywhere. Despite the brisk business, it’s hard to believe they make enough now for the year.

tony's reached apple nirvana
Tony’s so happy he almost exploded.

nice view
It’s quite a view to have from your backyard.

All I could think was “Who is Peg Leg Bates?

hal killer
This pothole took out the mighty Volvo.

ouch!
Tony was just relieved no apples were harmed, though two tires were blown out.

*cough*
Hah hah hah. The hook up, eh? Not quite what springs to mind.

(September 24) Went to see David Blaine’s latest bit of performance art. (I’m being kind) I was surprised to find him not-upside-down when I got there. I found out later I shouldn’t have been.

yikes!
Believe it or not, this is not the real Statue of Liberty

lake
I’m always struck by the contrast here. There are skyscrapers a couple of hundred feet behind me.

the crowd
When I got to Wollman Rink, this crowd was gathered to see….

david blaine is not hanging upside down
David Blaine standing around, chatting. Note the not-upside-downness.
Apparently he took “breaks” every hour. So much for the whole 60 hours thing.

at last!
Eventually he did go back out on the harness.

*yawn*
Ho hum.

let's get out of here
Fowl.

(September 24) Today I had to go up to the Bronx in the neighborhood of the Amadou Diallo mural. On the way, I spotted several other murals in the area.
