(May 10) Yep. I forgot to post the last part of the May 10th excursion… Under the Brooklyn Bridge are these odd fluorescent lights. I’ve seen them before, and while I’m still not sure, I think they’re supposed to be an artistic piece of some kind… although it’s hard to know for sure since there’s no plaque and I’m a heathen.

art?

utility?

bulbs?

expression?

installed or an installation?

(May 16) Going places, going places I didn’t intend to go, and going more places still.

nobody expects the surprise mosaic!
I didn’t hear the announcement that my R was going to go express to 36th. Fortunately there were mosaics I hadn’t seen before at the end of the proverbial and literal tunnel.

1940's subway mosaic
These appear to be subway scenes from the 1940’s. I didn’t see a placard.

i wish it were mine
Then after picking up my notebook, it was back into Manhattan to the West Village heading for the library. Unfortunately I rode the subway and not the Ducati.

The next day on Union St., the strange sign had changed.

(May 10) The point of my trip out on May 10th was to see the de-fence Project. I got there too late in terms of lighting, but it got torn down the next day. Where I live, the landlord has put in dangerous illegal apartments the city knows about and has done nothing about, but put up some art without a permit, and the state takes immediate action.

This was a surprise. A carousel inside a storefront.

When I reached the end, the end was near for de-fence.

(May 10) I went back to DUMBO.

so much fail you need a mop
This building happens to be owned by the MTA itself, and long ago became a symbol of the agency’s FAIL syndrome.

Everyone knows sneakers grow on bridges, not trees.

Another thinking tour. My return to the Brooklyn Bridge. Didn’t come up with any good ideas.
